“Good health is an indication that the body and environment are in harmony, while illness is a sign of imbalance, on a spiritual, mental or physical level”.

According to Ayurveda, the definition of health is a state in which the tridoshas, metabolic fires, body tissues, and components, and all the physiological processes are in perfect unison, and the sense organs, mind, and soul are in a state of total satisfaction and content.

Ayurveda has the distinction of being the oldest medical system known to man and the oldest and most comprehensive spiritual teachings in the world. Ayurveda is based on the principle of maintaining a balance between the interrelated relationships within the body and mind. It helps the patient to understand the benefits of knowing their body and mind and to live in intimate relationship with nature.

Atharvana veda was the earliest authentic text in Ayurveda which discusses about the nature of existence, health and disease, pathogenesis and principles of treatment. It also describe about the tridoshas and the use of herbs to heal the diseases of body and mind. The knowledge of Vedas was gathered and systematically arranged to form “Samhitas” which became fundamental texts of Ayurveda.

By following the guideline advocated in classics, over the period of one and half decade we excelled the application of Panchakarma therapeutic services in a wide range of clinical conditions covering immunological disorders, neurological, neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, digestive, auto immune, skin and so on.

In Ayurveda, health is defined as the state where physical body, senses, and psyche are in original or natural state with respect to body and function.

Although there is no precise equivalent for MND in Ayurveda, MND can be considered as ‘VATA’ predominant disease. Vata is considered as a chief factor for the physiological maintenance of the body. Vata biofactor is responsible for functions of the central, autonomic, and peripheral nervous systems. Vata controls the respiratory, blood, lymphatic, excretory, and reproductive systems, as well as all types of movements. It is also responsible for the cognitive and neocognitive function of the brain and secretion of various chemical neurotransmitters and hormones. This description of Vata resembles the functions of central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems.

The Vata diseases as described in Ayurvedic classics include a wide range of neurological morbidities, including inflammatory, degenerative, obstructive, and functional. Factors provoking Vata result in the instantaneous manifestation of diseases, which can even prove to be fatal.

Most of the signs & symptoms of MND like fasciculations, cramps, wasting, weakness, spasticity, bulbar symptom etc. match that of the classical signs & symptoms of Vata derangement described in Ayurveda. So the line of treatment in Ayurveda mainly focuses on the pacification Vata and bringing back the equilibrium between all the three Doshas (Vata, Pitta & Kapha).

‘ALOVIA-THE SPECIALITY AYURVEDA’ Institute of Panchakarma & traditional health care center, started treating MND/ALS cases since the year 2003. Our knowledge of MND has evolved greatly over the past few years. We have been continuously working on this disease and are committed for the better success in treating MND patients.

ALOVIA Ayurveda facility offers a very effective treatment methodology for MND, based on the classical texts of Ayurveda. Management of MND is usually aggressive and primarily consists of four procedures:

  • samsodhan (cleansing through Panchakarma therapy)
  • samsaman (palliative care through researched internal medicines)
  • kaya kalp (rejuvenation)
  • sattvavajaya (counseling/psychotherapy)

Along with these, strict diet & life style modification will be advocated.

Ayurveda therapy can be comfortably combined with Riluzole therapy as there is no interaction between Ayurveda medicines & Riluzole.

Today, ALOVIA stands to be the most experienced Ayurveda facility in India for treating MND cases. Apart from treating, we are also educating and creating awareness among the MND patients and their relatives.

Inspite of the best possible treatment efforts, currently complete cure of MND in most of the cases is not possible as this disease as per Ayurveda comes under the criteria of ‘Kashta saadhya roga’ (difficult to cure).

***IMPORTANT ISSUE TO BE NOTED AND UNDERSTOOD BY ALL MND PATIENTS AND THEIR ATTENDENTS***

EARLY DIAGNOSED & TREATED CASES RESPOND TO THE MAXIMUM AND RATE OF SUCCESS WILL DECREASE WITH CHRONICITY OF THE DISEASE.

AYURVEDA, the world’s most ancient, yet uniquely futuristic system of healing, is a system introduced to the human evolution for treating the physical and mental ailments ranging from symptom to syndrome. The methodology is based on principled diagnosis for its practical approach in dealing with acute and chronic diseases. This multi-faceted medicinal system treats the disease at any stage through a series of traditional treatments based on scientific explanations.

The strength of Ayurveda in treating neurological disorders is globally appreciated. Since it addresses the root cause of the issue the results are fantastic.

In view of Ayurveda MS is predominantly a Vata disease.

ALOVIA offers a very effective treatment methodology for MS, based on the classical texts of Ayurveda. We, at ALOVIA pay top priority to Ayurveda research as it aids the metamorphosis of ancient Ayurveda wisdom for the benefit of the present humanity.

MS treatment primarily consists of four procedures:

  • Samsodhan (cleansing through Panchakarma therapy)
  • Samsaman (palliative care through researched internal medicines)
  • Kaya kalp (rejuvenation)
  • Sattvavajaya (counseling/psychotherapy)

Along with these, strict diet & life style modification will be advocated.

We have been continuously working and completely dedicated for the MS research since year 2003. With our deep understanding on MS and its treatment modalities, we were highly successful in treating the patients from different counties.

Early intervention is always fruitful and yields good results varying from recovery to cure. MS becomes incurable after the nerve myelin is lost or damaged beyond the body’s ability to repair it. Then it moves into the category of impossible to cure, but possible to manage.

The syndrome was comprehensively described by James Parkinson in 1817 (An Essay on the Shaking Palsy). But the review of much early literature of Ayurveda date back as far as 5000 BC would show that syndrome strikingly similar to Parkinsonism was already known including the treatment with the seeds of a plant containing therapeutic levels of what is today known as levodopa apart from several other preparations. It is known as “Kampa vata”.

According to Ayurveda, most of the diseases of the Vata are essentially the conditions of degenerative diseases of the nervous system. Kampa vata is one such condition caused by imbalance of Vata. The treatment of ‘kampavata’ consists of both internal and external administration of drugs in different forms aimed to reverse the ‘vata’ imbalance.

Ayurveda was found to be an effective treatment for patients with Parkinson’s disease. Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of medicine. It has an integrated approach to the prevention and treatment of illness and tries to maintain or re-establish the harmony between the mind, body, and forces of nature.

Several Scientific studies and clinical trials have revealed the effectiveness of Ayurveda herbs and preparations, also established the necessity of Ayurvedic cleansing procedures (Panchakarma Therapies) prior to the use of Palliative therapy.

At ‘ALOVIA’, we are offering exclusive Panchakarma therapies and researched internal medicines for treating Parkinson’s disease. These are found very effective not only in controlling the symptoms of PD but also in arresting the further progression of the disease. Quality of life can be improved drastically with these custom made therapies.

If the patient is already on Allopathic medication, these treatments and medicines can be comfortably combined with them. Our Ayurveda treatment regime proves effective in controlling the side effects of allopathic medications and even in reducing the dosage of allopathic medications.

If a patient can come in the initial stages or before starting the allopathic medication, the results are wonderful.

In Ayurveda, Ankylosing Spondylitis fall under the broader perspective of ‘Ama Vata’ (Inflammatory or Rheumatic disorders). It is primarily because of the imbalance of Vata and Kapha Doshas but some times can be because imbalance of three Doshas as well.

Ayurveda offers excellent guidelines, medicines and therapies for treating Ankylosing spondylitis. The strength of Ayurveda in the area of spine and joint treatments is globally appreciated. Since it addresses the root cause of the issue, the results are fantastic.

Ayurveda has in-depth knowledge of causative factors of AS and clearly explained the pathogenesis and line of treatment to be followed.

At ALOVIA, with our deep understanding and research on the fundamentals, we are providing a very effective treatment methodology based on the classical texts of Ayurveda. Treatment is usually aggressive, long-term and requires regular and careful follow-ups. The treatment comprises of a series of purification procedures for Detoxification through world renowned Ayurveda Panchakarma therapies along with the administration of researched medicines internally.

Panchakarma procedures usually requires around 60 – 90 days based on the severity & chronicity of the disease. Strict diet restrictions along life style modification are essential parts of the therapy. Following the diet as advised not only helps in recovering fast but also in prevents further worsening of the condition.

If patient comes for the treatment in early stages, even total cure is also possible.

According to Ayurveda, Rheumatoid arthritis can be compared to “Ama vata“. It has been described as

” Sa Kashtaha Sarvarogaanaam yadaa prakupito Bhavet |
Hastha paada shiro gulpha trika jaanu uru sandhishu ||
Karoti sarujam shopham yatra doshaha prapadyate |
Sa desho rujate atyatham vyaviddha iva vrishchkaihi || “

This means ” If the disease “ama vata” (rheumatoid arthritis) gets aggravated, it becomes most difficult disease comparatively to others. The joints of hands, feet, ankles and elbow, low back, knee, and hip become inflamed and painful. The pain in the affected joints resembles the pain of a scorpion’s sting.”

A detailed description of the causative factors, pathophysiology, symptoms, treatment principles and diet & lifestyle modifications for treating ‘Amavata’ have been clearly explained in Ayurveda, thousands of years back.

Cardinal symptoms of Amavata

  • Vriscik damsha vata vedana (Morning pain severe in nature)
  • Sanchari Vedana (shifting pain)
  • Stambha (stiffness of joints)
  • Jwara (Increase temperature)
  • Karmahani (loss of movements)
  • Sandhi Vikruti (joint deformity)
  • Kshudhamandya (Loss of appetite)

Prognosis

Disease with early onset and single dosha prominence in young individual can be cured with proper treatment and with religiously following the do’s and don’ts. As the disease become chronic it involves multiple systems, which makes the disease incurable. If it is present with signs of complications then it may produce serious threats to life.

In Ayurveda following are the lines of treatment in Amavata (Rheumatoid arthritis):

  • Langhanam (Fasting)
  • Sodhana chikitsa (Purification of the body)
  • Shamana chikitsa (Treatment for subsiding the symptoms)

Langhana (fasting) – It is done by means of complete absence of food, or by giving green gram / rice / barley soups.

Shodhana – It is done through Panchakarma therapy. Usually treatment is long term and various procedures are done according to the patient condition and presentation. Therapies like Snehapanam, Vamanam, Manal kizhi, Virechanam, Podikizhi, Elakkizhi, Pizhichil, Vaitharana / Kshara basti, Navarakizhi etc are done to get the maximum results.

Shaman Chikitsa – It is done by using very effective and time tested Ayurveda formulations like kashaya, asavarista. Choorna, vati, taila, Rasoushadi etc.

Apart from these three, strict diet regimen and life style changes are advocated.

At ALOVIA, we are providing a very effective treatment methodology for treating Rheumatoid Arthritis (Ama vata), based on the Ayurveda lines of management coupled with years of experience and dedication.

If patient can come for the treatment in early stages of the disease, even complete cure is also possible provided patient follows all the guideline including diet restrictions strictly.

In chronic cases, complete cure may not be possible but control over the disease and dependency on allopathic medicines can be reduced.

Ayurveda categorized Slip disc as one of diseases caused by vitiation Vata (one of the principle dosha in the body, responsible for the movement and functionality of the body). Treatment in Ayurveda is aimed at restoring the equilibrium through correction of the underlying functional in-equilibrium. Ayurvedic treatments for Slip disc concentrate on bringing back the aggravated vata to the state of equilibrium and thereby to the state of health.

At ALOVIA, we are providing very effective and most successful treatment for Slip disc or herniated disc. With our vast experience in treating Spine related conditions, today we are successfully dealing even post surgical recurrence cases.

The treatment comprises of Detoxification and rejuvenation through Ayurvedic Panchakarma therapy, administration of researched medicines internally.

The therapies like Abyanga swedam, Nasyam, Pathrapotala swedam, Choornapinda swedam, Pizhichil, Shirodhara, Kadeevasthy, Greevavasthy, Navarakizhi, Vasti etc. are done as per the necessity and condition. These therapies are directed towards relieving the inflammatory changes, releasing the spasms and nerve compressions in the affected area, strengthening the supportive tissues holding the spine, nourishing the joints through improving the circulation. Usually the treatment period is 4 – 5 weeks according to the severity of the disease.

In four to six weeks, the majority of patients find their symptoms are relieved, without surgery. If patient can come for the treatment in early stages, even total cure without recurrence is also possible.

Ayurveda is specialized in treating Sciatica with highest treatment success rate. It offers excellent Panchakarma therapies along with internal medicines for treating Sciatica.

Ayurveda described sciatica as Gridhrasi (Gridhra means Eagle), as the gait of the affected person resembles that of an eagle’s walk and the inflamed nerve appears like eagle’s beak.

Ayurveda categorized Sciatica as one of diseases caused by vitiation Vata (one of the principle dosha in the body, responsible for the movement and functionality of the body). Sometimes even kapha (dosha responsible for lubrication and bodily fluids) vitiation along with Vata (vata kaphaj) also causes sciatica.

Treatment in Ayurveda is aimed at restoring the equilibrium through correction of the underlying functional in-equilibrium. Ayurvedic treatments for Sciatica concentrate on bringing back the aggravated vata or vata kaphato the state of equilibrium and thereby to the state of health.

At ALOVIA, Treatment comprises of three approaches, Elimination (Sodhanam) of the accumulated toxic products of digestion, metabolism and the disease process, Pacification (Samanam) and correction of the entities responsible for altered functioning and Rejuvenation (Rasayanam) of the bodily tissue to regain and maintain natural strength and vitality.

The strength of Ayurveda in the area of spine and joint treatments is globally appreciated. Since it addresses the root cause of the issue the results are fantastic.

Therapies like Dhanyamla dhara, Abyanga swedam, Pathrapotali swedam (Elakizhi), Sarvangadhara (Pizhichil), Kadeevasthy, Navarakizhi, Vasti (the most important procedure in Ayurveda for curing Sciatica permanently) etc., are done as per the necessity and condition. These therapies are directed towards relieving the inflammatory changes and underlying causes of Sciatica, releasing the spasms and nerve compressions in the affected area, strengthening and nourishing entire spine & supporting tissues. Usually the treatment period is 4 – 5 weeks according to the severity of the disease.

Along with these therapies, Ayurveda has also described Sira vedana (Venesection) and Agni karma (Heat therapy) for treating Sciatica.

In four to six weeks, the majority of patients find their symptoms are relieved with our treatment. Ayurveda stands as a better alternative to surgery in Sciatica.

We have experienced the best treatment success rate in treating Sciatica cases including post-surgical recurrence.

According to Ayurveda the Vata, the principle of movement is the predominant function with the skeleto-muscular system and the nervous system. Problems relating to these systems are predominantly caused by vitiated Vata.

Vatavyadhis comes under a group of diseases which manifest by dhatu kshaya or margavarana and those are classified according to hetu, sthana and lakshana. In the classification of dhatukshayajanya vatavyadhis, many degenerative conditions are considered. Cervical spondylosis can be considered one among them and can be compared with ‘Vishwachi’.

Treatment in Ayurveda is aimed at restoring the equilibrium through correction of the underlying functional in-equilibrium.

At ALOVIA, the treatment for Cervical Spondylosis is comprehensive and may include Ayurveda internal medicines & external applications for mild cases and along with these, Ayuveda Panchakarma therapies in severe cases. Diet and lifestyle modifications are applied in both the scenarios.

Panchakarma therapies like Abhyanga swedam, Elakizhi, Nasyam, Shirovasti or shirodhara, Sarvangadhara, Greeva basti, Navara or mamsa kizhi, Vasti are usually done based on the persons presentation and severity of the disease. Average duration of therapy may range between 4 – 6 weeks and most of the cases experience high recovery.

Pain, tingling sensation, numbness, stiffness of the spine are major symptoms of Lumbar spondylosis which is predominantly due to vitiated Vatha dosha. According to Ayurveda, Lumbar Spondylosis can be correlated to Kati Vata (one of the Sandhigata Vata) and back pain to Kati shula or Prishta shula or Kati graha or Trika shulaor Trika graha.

Treatment in Ayurveda for Lumbar spondylosis is to bring the vitiated ‘Vata dosha‘ back to the state of equilibrium and thereby to the state of health.

The treatment modalities for treating this condition include Panchakarma & Rejuvenation therapies, internal medications, diet and life style changes.

Therapies like Dhanyamladhara, Abhyanga swedam, Elakizhi, Sarvangadhara, Vasti, kati vasti, Navarakizhi are commonly done according to the severity of illness.

At ALOVIA, therapies are customized and are done dedicatedly to achieve the maximum success rate. Duration of the treatment may range from 4 – 6 weeks.

Ayurveda refers this condition as ‘Kati shoola’. Kati refers to ‘low back’ (hip) and shoola refers ‘pain’. Kati vata or Prishta shoola or Kati graha or Trika shoola or Trika graha are other names or conditions mentioned in the classics. Vata is the predominant dosha causing these conditions and are categorized under Vataja nantmaja vyadhis.

Vata, one among the tripod of human living being is said to be superior most in all aspects, for every guna, lakshana, kriya (properties and actions), health benefits and the strongest in its ability to produce diseases and worst mortality.

Diseases related to Vata are innumerable and presentation of it is in the whole body. Even though a large number of symptoms suggest the abnormality of Vata, the cardinal symptom of vitiation of this dosha is ‘pain’ which is known as Shoola in Ayurveda. This pain is universally understood as a marker of the disease and it is the most common symptom that makes a person to seek the physician’s advice.

At ALOVIA, the treatment for Back pain or Kati shoola will be planned according to the presentation of the dosha predominance and underlying cause. Treatment may include Panchakarma therapies for Shodhana, internal medicines, external applications and advise on diet and life style modification.

Therapies like Abyanga sweda, Dhanyamla dhara, Snehapana, Vamana, Podikizhi, Elakizhi, Pizhichil, Vasti, Navarakizhi, Kati vasti, Pichu etc. are done according to the severity and nature of the disease. Therapies may range between 3 – 6 weeks and can expect maximum recovery with in this period. Duration may vary further based on the underlying cause.

Ayurveda, the holistic science of India, places a lot of emphasis of the care of the digestive system. Ayurvedic concepts particularly focus on the significance of healthy digestive system with regard to the overall balanced functioning and healthiness of the human body and mind. Healthy digestion ensures that the nutrients taken in through food are able to produce healthy tissues (Saptha Dhathus). When digestion is weak, the tissues of your body – including muscle, blood, bone and nerves – become weak and susceptible to disease.

According to Ayurveda, Crohn’s can be compared to ‘Grahani’ disease. Grahani in Ayurveda, is actually an anatomical term to describe small intestines (specifically Ileum and jejunam). Any vitiation or inflammation to this particular part by imbalanced Doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) can cause a wide variety of symptom similar to that of Crohn’s disease, anywhere across the digestive system. Degree and nature of symptoms may vary as per the doshic predominance & involvement.

As per Ayurveda, primary causes of Grahani disease are Mandagi (poor appetite and poor digestion), irregular, improper, irrelevant or incompatible diet habits and junk food. Non-following of the healthy diet habits (Pathya) in certain digestive disorders, especially the conditions of post diarrhea and irritable bowels, are also one of the important causes of this disease.

At ALOVIA, we are providing very effective treatment for Crohn’s disease based on the classical principle of Ayurveda and our research. Treatment involves internal research medicines, strict diet regime and life style modifications. In more severe and chronic cases, Panchakarma therapy is selectively done along with these.

If the patient is already on allopathic treatment, Ayurveda treatment can be clubbed initially and gradually allopathic medicines can be tapered down.

Usually results are very good with Ayurvedic line of treatment. Early cases tend to respond quickly than chronic. If patient can stick to all the guidelines as advised, even complete cure can also be achieved.

Ayurveda is a natural system of healing and health maintenance. According to Ayurvedic medicine, healthy digestion plays an integral part in establishing good health and well-being. When the digestive system fails to function optimally, the body becomes congested, blocking circulation and inhibiting movement of toxins out of the body. Therefore, it is imperative that people work to establish good digestion.

As per Ayurveda, Ulcerative colitis can be considered as ‘Pittaja Grahani’.

In Ayurveda, it is known that perfect health exists when the three fundamental energies (doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha) are in balance. Out of these three, when Pitta dosha gets imbalnced, vitiates intestines and causes Pittaja Grahani.

Pitta energy fuels all the biochemical activities, including transformation, digestion, metabolism and assimilation. Pitta is responsible for all the enzymatic and endocrine activity, regulation of body temperature, pigmentation, vision, intelligence, vitality, ambition, courage and understanding. The key qualities of pitta are hot, quick, light, liquid, spreading, slightly oily and fleshy smelling.

Causes of Pittaja Grahani disease are Mandagi (poor appetite and poor digestion), irregular, improper and irrelevant diet habits, heavy to digest or indigestible foods, junk food, Pitta aggravating diets like excess of spicy, pungent, acidic, sour, alkaline nature foods, food items which produces burning sensation in the body, exposure to excess hot climate, alcohol, smoking, excess anger etc. Non-following of the healthy diet habits (Pathya) in certain digestive disorders, especially the conditions of post diarrhea and irritable bowels, are also one of the causes of this disease.

Pittaja Grahani produces the classical symptoms of Ulcerative colitis. Vitiation of Pitta, when reaches extreme will causes severe inflammation, ulceration and rectal bleeding (active phase or flare-up).

At ALOVIA, we offer very effective treatment for Ulcerative colitis based on the classical principle of Ayurveda and our research. Our treatment of Ulcerative colitis is focused in healing the ulcers and restoring the normal function of colon and maintaining the overall health of the digestive system.

Treatment involves Shamana chikitsa (internal medicines), Shodana chikitsa (Panchakarma therapy), life style modifications and very strict diet regime. In more severe case Panchakarma therapy plays a vital role as it quickly detoxifies & rejuvenates the digestive system, controls the inflammation, rectal bleeding and heals the ulcerations.

Usually results are very good with Ayurvedic line of treatment. Early cases tend to respond quickly than chronic. If patient can stick to all the guidelines as advised, even complete cure can also be achieved.

The disease has been discussed in Ayurveda under Vata vyadhi disorder. The terms Paksaghata, Paksha Vadha and Ekanga Vata have been used to describe Paralysis in Ayurveda. Ayurveda has mentioned facial paralysis as a separate disease entity called “Ardita vata”. The treatment guidelines for these conditions have been widely enumerated in the classical texts of Ayurveda.

In spite of the various treatment modalities available in all medical streams available, Ayurveda has proved or stands to be one of the most effective treatment methodologies for the best possible recovery in Paralysis or stroke condition.

So, immediately after getting discharged from Acute medical care center or hospital, it is always highly recommendable to take Ayurveda treatment.

At ALOVIA, we offer excellent Panchakarma therapies along with oral medications for treating Paralysis. The therapies like Abhyanga swedam, Nasyam, Karna pooranam, Snehapanam, Virechanam, Shiro vasti, Sarvanga dhara (Pizhichil), Pichu, Navarakizhi, Vasti etc. are done as per the necessity and condition for about 4 – 5 weeks.

Oral medicines will be continued for 3 – 6 months depending on the recovery. Apart from these Diet & Life style modifications are essential throughout the treatment of Paralysis.

Early intervention of Ayurveda treatment maximizes the recovery chances of Paralysis condition.

There are three classical therapeutic streams advocated by Ayurveda which used in the management of Autism Spectrum Disorders (Unamada). They are

  • Daiva Vyapasraya (Confidence building treatment) – rites and rituals to ward off the unseen evil forces (environmental agents including micro organisms) and in turn protecting the body and mind.
  • Yukti Vyapasraya (Rational Medical Management) – rational prescription of drugs, therapies, food and activities to keep the equilibrium of the body intact.
  • Satvavajaya (Mind or self control techniques) – cognitive, behavioural and spiritual knowledge and training methods to develop and maintain the mental faculties.

The rational Ayurveda treatment is carried out in four parts. They are

  1. Dosha pacifying therapy (Samsamana)
  2. Bio-cleansing therapy (Samsodhana or Panchakarma)
  3. Avoidance of causative factors (Nidana Parivarjana)
  4. Favourable diet and regimens (Pathya Aharavihara)

At ALOVIA, Management of Autism affected children is also carried out on this line of treatment. Autism requires therapies which act at the physical, mental and spiritual planes. The effective deployment of these therapies will ensure a better outcome for the child.

Duration of Panchakarma therapy could range from 3 weeks to 5 weeks depending on the severity along with researched internal medicines for about 2 – 3 years.

Repetition of therapies in small courses either individual or in combination intermittently will yield great benefit and stands as long term support for Autistic child.

Management of cerebral palsy always remained a quest for the physicians all over the world. Even with introduction of newer and better possible ways to improve the functions of the child so that the quality of life is improved but still is a challenge for them.

Ayurveda has a separate branch of clinical specialization concerning child healthcare known as Kaumarabhrutya.

Cerebral palsy cannot be correlated with any single disease or condition mentioned in Ayurveda, as it is a multi-factorial disease. Classical signs and symptoms of CP will fit into criteria of Vata vyadhi spectrum(Vata predominant disease). Hence Vata vyadhi chikitsa will prove beneficial.

Overall goal of treatment is to help the individual with cerebral palsy reach his or her greatest potential physically, mentally, and socially. It is to improve the quality of life by establishing optimal independence.

Treatment at ALOVIA for CP involves intensive Panchakarma therapy program along with researched oral medicines. Therapies like Abhyanga swedam, Nasyam, Pichu, Shirodhara, Pizhichil, Navara or mamsakizhi, Vasti are done based on the presentation and suitablity. Duration of therapy could range from 3 weeks to 5 weeks. Oral medicines will be continued for 2 – 3 years.

Repetition of therapies in small courses either individual or in combination intermittently will yield great benefit and stands as long term support for CP child.

Ayurveda is a holistic approach to healthcare with roots in ancient India. According to Ayurveda, Osteoarthritis occurs due to aggravation of Vata Dosha and is known as “Sandhivata” (sandhi=joint).

The vata (one of the three bio-regulating principles of the body) is aggravated by various reasons like improper diet, over exertion, injury, exposure to cold & intake of cold items, suppression of natural urges, staying awake at night, stress, depression etc. Apart from these, aging is a primary cause as vata predominance in body increases as age of the person advances towards old age. Individuals with the Vata Prakruti are also more prone for the Sandhivata.

Vata is rooksha (dry) in nature. When Vata get vitiated in any of the joints, dries up the lubricating synovial fluid inside the joint capsule, degenerates the joints and causes the destruction of the cartilage.

Sandhivata gradually worsens with time, and no cure exists. But Sandhivata treatments can prevent the progression of the disease, relieve pain, rejuvenates damaged cartilages, and improves the joint lubrication, function & strength.

Sandhivata treatment includes both Samana chikitsa and shodhan chikitsa. Shamana chikitsa includes Ayurveda oral medicines and external applications. Shodana chikitsa includes Ayurveda Panchakarma and Kayakalpa therapies for detoxification and rejuvenation. Healthy diet habits & life style are equally important in maintaining the joint health.

At ALOVIA, we provide very effective treatment for Sandhivata. Early diagnosis and treatment is the key to controlling Sandhivata-osteoarthritis. Panchakarma procedures require around 3 – 4 weeks depending on the joint involved and patient can expect significant benefit within this period.

Our goal of managing Sandhivata-osteoarthritis includes controlling/relieving pain, maintaining and improving range of movement and stability of affected joints and limiting functional impairment.

Vata Rakta or Aadya Vata is a classical description of Gout in Ayurveda. Vata dosha, Pitta dosha and Rakta Dhatu are specially vitiated to cause Vatarakta.

Several causes are listed in Ayurveda, which causes Vatarakta are excessive intake of Lavana (salty), Amla (Sour), Katu (pungent), Tikta (bitter), Kshara (alkaline), Snigdha (Too oily), and Ushna (Too hot) foods, eating dried & preserved or spoiled fish/meat, Ulavalu (Horsegram), Blackgram, Nishpava (anumulu, a bean variety), sour curd or buttermilk, incompatible foods like fish with milk products, drinking alcohol, daytime sleep, staying awake in the night, anger etc.

Based on the seat of the disease, Vatarakta is classified into 2 types.

  1. Uttana (superficial) – This is located in the twak (skin) & mamsa (muscle).
  2. Gambhira (deep) – This is located in the deeper dhatus and more severe in nature. Tophi or nodule formation occurs.

At ALOVIA, our treatment includes Ayurveda Panchakarma therapy along with internal medicines, diet & lifestyle modifications. Therapies like Snehapanam, Virechanam, Abhyanga swedam, Elakkizhi, Pizhichil, Vasti, Navarakizhi etc are very useful in treating or even curing Vatarakta.

In very severe cases, even Rakthamokshana therapy is also practiced for quicker and long lasting relief.

There are many factors that can be involved in the chronic pain and tenderness associated with the fibromyalgia condition. These factors are not always the same for each individual. However, in general, as per Ayurveda, the aggravation of Vata dosha (due to margavarodha) and accumulation of Ama (toxins) are the primary causes of Fibromyalgia.

It falls into a subtype of disease known in Ayurveda as vātavyādhi (diseases caused primarily by vitiated Vāta Dosha). Vātavyādhi is a disease of chronic and unpredictable nature, difficult to cure, involving primarily the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, but in time affecting one or more additional tissues. It is described in ancient texts as manifesting with a variety of possible and changing symptoms and signs including pain, stiffness, contracture, fatigue, gradual loss of movement, and mental disturbance. This description is remarkably similar to modern description of fibromyalgia.

Primarily the pathogenesis originates in the gastrointestinal tract (anna vaha srota) then branches out through the madhyama rogamarga, the middle channels of pathogenic process of disease, with special inclination for shleshma sthana especially muscle tissues (mamsa dhatu) and their corresponding channels. Intolerability of even light touch in muscles (sparshasahyata) is a unique feature of the disease. The disease has a chronic course and malaise, anorexia, heaviness of the body, nausea, intermittent fever are responsible for gradually disabling patients.

Fibromyalgia has proven to be a difficult condition to manage due to its complexity.

But at ALOVIA, we are providing an effective treatment for Fibromyalgia.

At ALOVIA, the treatment of fibromyalgia, which is primarily a vātavyadi disease, focuses on both Vāta samshamana (re-balance) and samshodhana (purification) which become deranged due to accumulation of ama (toxins). Our treatment for Fibromyalgia includes a combination of Panchakarma therapies, researched internal medicines, strict Diet & Lifestyle modifications and stress management.

Ayurveda believes that impurities in the blood associated with emotional factors are the cause of the disease.

Psoriasis is believed to occur due to vitiation of all the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) in varying degree, but predominantly Vata and Kapha according to the Ayurvedic concept.

Ekakustakitibha and Sidma are some of the types of Kshudra and Maha Kustas (skin diseases) narrated in Ayurveda closely resemble the classical symptoms of Psoriasis.

The predominance of vatha causes pain, dryness and scaling of skin. Pitha vitiation leads to burning sensation, redness, inflammation etc and that of kapha causes rashes, itching, discharge, thickening of skin etc. From these signs and symptoms, the doshic involvement is analyzed carefully in each patient, which is of utmost importance in the management of this disease.

Irregular food habits, consumption of foodstuffs that are advised not to be eaten together (incompatible foods like dairy products with fish), excessive intake of yogurt, paneer, black gram, seafood, sour and salted items etc can activate the pathogenesis. The produced toxins accumulate in deep tissues like rasa (nutrient plasma), rakta (blood), mamsa (muscles), and laseeka (lymphatic). These toxins cause contamination of deeper tissues, leading to Psoriasis. Alcohol and tobacco consumption will act as a catalyst here. Ayurveda, one of the major traditional forms of medical practice in India, has produced many useful leads in developing medications for chronic diseases.

Ayurveda is an intricate system of healing that originated in India thousands of years ago. Historical evidence of Ayurveda can be found in the ancient books of wisdom known as the Vedas that were written over 6000 years ago. Ayurveda provides novel approaches to cancer prevention that are considered safe.

Classical Ayurvedic texts have several references to cancer. Some terms used to describe the condition are general while others are much more specific.

alovia and Sushruta Samhita (700 BC) both described the equivalent of cancer as granthi (benign or minor neoplasm) and arbuda (malignant or major neoplasm). Both can be inflammatory or non-inflammatory, based on the doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) involved. The term dosha describes the three principles that govern the psychophysiological response and pathological changes in the body. Ayurveda described health as the balanced coordination of these three systems in body, mind and consciousness. The fundamental theory of Ayurvedic treatment is based on restoration of the balance between these three major bodily systems.

Tridoshic tumours are usually malignant because all three major body humors lose mutual coordination, resulting in a morbid condition.

Arbuda is the most specific term for a cancerous malignancy. Gulma is one another reference used to describe any palpable hard mass in the abdomen. It is any hard, tumor like mass in the abdominal region, which could be benign or malignant.

Ayurvedic classification of neoplasms depends upon various clinical symptoms in relation to tridoshas.

  • Group I: Diseases that can be named as clear malignancies, including arbuda and granthi, such as mamsarbuda (sarcomas) and raktarbuda (leukaemia), mukharbuda (oral cancer), and asadhya vrana (incurable or malignant ulcers).
  • Group II: Diseases that can be considered as cancer or probable malignancies, such as ulcers and growths. Examples of these are mamsaja oshtharoga (growth of lips), asadhya galganda (incurable thyroid tumour), tridosaja gulmas, asadhya udara roga, (abdominal tumours like carcinomas of the stomach and liver or lymphomas).
  • Group III: Diseases with the possibility of malignancy, such as visarpa (erysipelas), asadhya kamala (incurable jaundice), asadhya pradara (intractable dysmenorrhea or leukorrhea) and tridosaja nadi vrana (intractable sinusitis).

In Ayurveda, the liver is called Yakrit. Pitta is the predominant humor of the liver. Most liver disorders are aggravated conditions of Pitta.

Excessive bile production or a blockage in the flow of bile usually indicates high pitta, which in turn affects the agni or enzyme activities responsible for absorption, digestion and metabolism.

Aggravation of the Pitta causes the liver diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis and fatty liver.

Kaamala is the term mentioned in Ayurveda to describe the wide range of liver diseases including Hepatitis. Kaamala is a disease of the Raktavaha srotas (a system which includes liver, spleen, blood vessels, and reticuloendothelial tissue) and dominant of pitta dosha. Kaamala is caused due to impairment of pitta dosha and rakta dhatu.

Ayurveda describes various types of kaamala (hepatitis or jaundice) based on the stage or depth of the symptoms. They are:

  • Shakhasrita – is caused by the aggravation of all the doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha), and is a kind of obstructive jaundice.
  • Koshta shakhsrita – results from very high pitta derangement and considered as severe jaundice or hepatitis, difficult to cure.
  • Kumbha kamala – is a neglected or untreated stage of jaundice or hepatitis. It can become incurable if not attended immediately. It can be compared with Cirrhosis of liver.
  • Haleemaka – is an advanced or neglected stage of Paandu roga that occurs when both the vata and pitta are out of balance.

At ALOVIA, we are providing highly effective treatment for various type or Hepatitis including hepatitis B & hepatitis C. Our treatment is useful in controlling the infection & replication of the virus, preventing further damage to liver. Hepatitis B patients show better response than Hepatitis C.

Our treatment involves Shodana chikitsa (detoxification through Panchakarma procedures), Shamana chikitsa (Palliative researched Ayurvedic medicines) and Kayakalpa (rejuvenation).

Diet restrictions, life style modifications and de-addiction are also the essential factors practiced for the best possible results.

The liver is called Yakrit in Ayurveda. Pitta is the predominant humor of the liver. Most liver disorders are aggravated conditions of Pitta. Kumbha Kamala is the classical description if cirrhosis of liver in Ayurveda.

“|| Kaalantarath khareebhutah kruchrasyaat khumba kamala ||”

AID/HIV in Ayurveda may be considered as Ojakshaya, meaning the loss of Vital Energy or immunity. The symptoms, Signs and Causative factors (Nidan), and the Treatment aspect has been described in many Ayurvedic Treaties like Charak Samhita, Susrutha Samhita and Ashtanga Hrudaya, Bhavprakash, Vaidya Chintamani and Chakradatta etc.

Ojas is essence of our body. Ojas is otherwise explained as ‘Bala’ (strength or immunity) and ‘Dhatusara’. Ojas is of two types namely, ‘para ojas’ and ‘Apara ojas’. The ‘ojas’ of para(excellent) type is eight drops in quantity, is located within the heart and death occurs when this get depleted. The other type ‘Apara ojas’ is also known as ‘sleshmaka ojas’, the quantity of which is described as Ardha Anjali and distributed throughout the body. When this ojas is not affected the bodily functions will be normal.

In conditions like HIV/AIDS, where loss of ojas is a prominent feature, people are found to be susceptible to various other diseases or infections.

At ALOVIA, we are providing treatment for HIV/AIDS with encouraging results. Our treatment primarily focuses on

  • Stopping the viral replication, controlling viral load and CD4 count improvement

Ayurveda, the disease entities vandhyatva & Napumsakatva are the closest approximation to female & male infertility respectively.

Ayurveda consider this problem as a cause of deterioration of quality of four factors i.e., time of ovulation, female health in context of reproductive system, quality of sperm and ovum and females proper nutrition.

According to Ayurvedic classics female infertility is failure achieve a child rather than pregnancy as Garbha srava and Mrutvatsa is also included in type of infertility.

Vajikarana is one of the eight branches of Ayurveda which specifically deals with the Shukra dhatu (semen & ovum) and sexual potencification to have healthier progeny.

Main Ayurvedic treatment goals are

  • Purification
  • Functional optimization of reproductive tissues (arthava- and shukra-dhatu) of both sexes

According to Ayurveda, reproductive health is primarily determined by the health of tissue metabolism and tissue nutrition, both being ultimate requirements for conception.

The unique feature of the Ayurvedic approach to fertility is that it emphasizes improving the overall health of the prospective parents. Fertility therefore may ensue partly due to improved overall health.

At ALOVIA, we provide a very effective, holistic and wide range of treatment modalities for infertility based on classical principles of Ayurveda literature. Hundreds of formulations, herbs and recipes, variety of Panchakarma and rejuvenation therapies are advocated to achieve fertility.

The treatment of Infertility comprises of administration of rasayana and vajikara dravyas or medicines (virilificatory or aphrodisiacs) internally, Panchakarma & Vajikarana therapies for detoxification and rejuvenation of reproductive system.

Apart from regular Panchakarma procedures, Uttara vasti is a special & highly acclaimed procedure in Ayurveda to treat Infertility. It is introduction of medicate oil or decoction into the uterus in females through the cervix in females and into the bladder through urethra in males.

Along with these, diet and lifestyle modifications are also advocated which will not only help in better conception but also in producing healthy offspring.

Ayurveda, the science of life, prevention and longevity, is the oldest and most holistic and comprehensive medical system available. It uses the inherent principles of nature to help maintain health in a person by keeping the individual’s body, mind, and spirit in perfect equilibrium with nature.

As per Ayurveda, Oligospermia can be correlated with ‘Shukra kshaya”. Even though none of the standard Ayurvedic texts have mentioned about the count of Sperm or Motility of sperm but clearly mentions the quality of semen in the form of ‘Shuddha shukra Lakshana’.

In Ayurveda, healthy semen which is more fertile is described as

“shukram shuklam guru snigdham madhuram bahalam bahu|
ghritamaakshikatailabham sadgarbhaya ||”

This means the semen which is white, heavy, sticky, sweet in taste, more in quantity and which may look like the color of ghee or honey or oil is always fertile.

At ALOVIA, we provide a very effective, holistic and wide range of treatment modalities for curing Oligospermia. Hundreds of formulations, herbs and recipes, variety of Panchakarma and rejuvenation therapies are advocated to achieve the above said qualities of semen.

Ayurveda has advocated a separate branch which deals with the management of defective semen and spermatogenesis along with sexual potencification, is called as Vajikarana tantra (Aphrodisiac medicine). Vajikarana Therapy is recommended in Ayurveda for men who are above 16 and below 70 to maintain optimum sexual activity and healthy semen.

The treatment of Oligospermia comprises of administration of rasayanas and vajikara dravyas or medicines (virilificatory or aphrodisiacs) internally, Panchakarma & Vajikarana therapies for detoxification and rejuvenation along with diet and lifestyle modifications, will not only help in better conception but also in producing healthy offspring.

According to Ayurveda, sex is the third pillar of Life, the first two being diet and sleep. These form the foundation on which to build a life of health and longevity.

Ayurveda has mentioned numerous herbal remedies for erectile dysfunction which contain natural aphrodisiacs. These preparations enhance one’s potency by leaps and bounds by increasing the span of erection, hardness and prevents premature ejaculation and rejuvenates the male reproductive system.

Ayurveda defines erectile dysfunction or ED as follows:

Sankalpapravano nityam priyaam vashyaamapi sthreeyam ||
na yaathi lingashaithilyaath kadaachidyaathi vaa yadi |
Shwaasaarthaha swinnagaatrshcha moghasankalpacheshtitaha ||
mlaanashishnashcha nirbeejaha syodetat klaibyalakshanam |

This means even though a man has a strong desire to perform sexual act with a cooperative partner, he cannot perform sexual act because of looseness (absence of erection) of his phallus (penis). Even if he performs sexual act with his determined efforts he does not get erection and gets afflicted with tiredness, perspiration and frustration to perform sex. This condition is termed as “Klaibyathva”.

Ayurveda describes physiology of erection and ejaculation as follows:

Vrishunow basthimedram cha naabhyuuru vankshnow gudam |
Apaanasthaanamantrasthaha shukra mootra shakrunti cha ||

The apaana vayu one of the five types of vayu is located in the testicles, urinary bladder, phallus, umbilicus, thighs, groin, anus and colon. Its functions are ejaculation of semen, voiding of urine and stools.

As per Ayurveda “when a man has desire (ichcha) to have sex, his response to touch increases. Vayu located in skin causes flow of signals from skin to brain, thus causing sensation of touch. This causes arousal or harsha. Harsha intensifies actions of vayu and at this moment highly active vayu liberates the teja or heat of pitta. Thus tejas and vayu increase body temperature, heart beat and blood flow causing erection.”

“yatha payasi sarpistu goodashchekshow raso yatha
shareereshu tatha shukram nrinaam vidyaadhbishagwara”

This means the shukra (the element which helps in reproduction) is present all over the body. But the cream of shukra (semen) comes out of the body only during the process of ejaculation, which needs a joyful union of mind and body. Decrease in production of shukra causes erectile dysfunction.

According to Ayurveda, the total treatment for Erectile dysfunction or Impotence is called as Vajikaranatherapy.

Vajikarana or Vrishya chikitsa is a one of eight major specialty of the Ashtanga Ayurveda. This subject is concerned with aphrodisiacs, virility and improving health of progeny. In Sanskrit, Vaji means horse, the symbol of sexual potency and performance thus Vajikaran means producing a horse’s vigor, particularly the animal’s great capacity for sexual activity in the individual.

Vajikarana chikitsa requires living in strict compliance to the directions mentioned in Ayurvedic classics. It involves various methods of shodhan (body cleansing) through vaman (emesis), virechan (purgation) and swedan (sweating). After the Shodhan therapy, based on the prakriti of the individual’s imbalance (doshic body constitution-Tridosha theory), certain herbal and herbo-mineral combinations are administered. Other components in the therapy involves improving health and pleasure in general like, massaging with medicated herbal oils and herbal baths, wearing of fragrant garlands, anointing the body with fragrant herbal pastes, listening to music, etc.

Vajikarana therapy is said to revitalize all the seven dhatus (body elements), therefore, restores equilibrium and health. Keeping in mind the concept of vajikaran as described in the texts of Ayurveda, it definitely offers a solution to minimize the shukra (sperm and ovum) defects and to ensure a healthy progeny.

At ALOVIA, we are providing very effective treatments (therapies, internal medicines and external applications) for Erectile dysfunction or Impotence with the guidelines of classical Ayurveda literature and our extensive research done. These treatments are directed and customized to suit the individual’s requirement and are yielding high success rate.

According to the principles and philosophy of Ayurvedic medicine, PrematureEjaculation is caused due to aggravated Vata. The Prakupita Vata enters into Shukra dhatu and causes early ejaculation. It comes under the gatatva concept of vata characterized by a group of clinical presentations, which include ejaculatory as well as seminal impairments is referred as Shukragatavata or Shukravritavata.

The clinical presentations of Shukragata Vata are early ejaculation (Shukra Ativega), delayed ejaculation (Shukra Avega), incapable to impregnate/affliction of fetus/premature birth (Nishphalatvam/Garbha vikrithi).

In Ayurveda, Vata is explained as life and vitality, supporter of the all embodied beings and sustain long life, free of disorder. Shukra is the terminal tissue element of the body, which is considered as the Saara (essence) of all other tissue elements and nourishes of the supreme vital essence (Ojas). Both concepts attained superior considerations in Ayurveda classics.

Ayurveda being the ancient unique system of medicine aims not only curing but preventing the disease too. Line of treatment of Shukragatavata or Premature ejaculation is Vatahara chikista (vata pacifying treatment), admistration of Vajeekarana (aphrodisiac) and Shukrastambhaka (medicines which delay the ejaculation or arrests premature ejaculation) dravyas or oushadhis.

At ALOVIA, we are providing highly successful treatments for curing Premature Ejaculation based on the knowledge shared by the classical texts of Ayurveda and through research based medicines. Vamana & Virechana therapies are quite effective and result yielding therapies among Panchakarma procedures. Lekhana Vasti is another special type of enema therapy which is also found beneficial in treating obesity.

Diet & Life style modifications plays a important role in the management of Obesity. Practice of specific yoga postures is also advised to reduce body weight. Along with these, appropriate Ayurvedic internal medicines are also used to achieve the best results, without any side effects.

Treatment schedule usually ranges between 3 – 5 weeks to suit the individuals requirement.

In Ayurveda, this condition can be correlated to Dushta Pratishyaya, where the main dosha affected is Kapha. It get aggravated and vitiates the Prana Vata (a sub type of Vata), which is mainly present in the respiratory tract.

The Ayurvedic approach to sinusitis treatment is multifaceted and can involve a combination detoxification processes through Panchakarma, oral medicines, dietary and life style modifications.

Therapies like Nasyam, Lepanam, Thalam, Vamanam, Shirodhara are commonly practiced depending on the dosha predominance and severity.

Nasya Karma or Nasyam is a unique and one of the five detoxification therapies mentioned in Ayurveda, highly successful in treating Sinusitis. It is a process in which medicated oil or powder or fresh juice is administered through the nostrils to clear the Kapha accumulated. Recurrence can also be prevented.

Average duration of therapy is around 7 days. Oral medicines duration will be around 6 – 12 months depending on recovery.

Increased hair fall in ayurveda is termed as khalitya and is classified under shiroroga.

Romakupagata / keshamulagata vitiated pitta (bhrajaka pitta) along with vitiated vata leads to dis-lodgement or withering of the hair from the hair roots. Further to this, vitiated sleshma / kapha along with rakta will cover and causes obstruction to the hair root, which results in no further hair growth from that place.

Khalitya is primarily a Pitta predominant tridoshajanya vyadhi (all three doshas vitiated disease). But based on the predominance of dosha, is divided into following types.

  1. Vataja Khalitya : In this type, Keshbhoomi or scalp appears as if it is Agnidagdha and it becomes Shyava and Aruna.
  2. Pittaja Khalitya : In this type the colour of scalp appears as Peeta, Neela and Harita. The scalp is surrounded by the Siras (veins). Sweat may be found all over scalp.
  3. Kaphaja Khalitya : In this type, the colour of the scalp is more or less same as the colour of skin but here it is Ghana and Snigdha in appearance and the colour tends towards whitish tinge.
  4. Sannipataja or Tridoshaja Khalitya : In this type of Khalitya, characteristic of all the three Doshas are observed. The scalp looks like burnt and it bears nail like appearance.

At ALOVIA, we offer a very effective treatment methodology based on the classical texts of Ayurveda. The treatment comprises of administration of rasayanas and kesh vardhak yogs/dravyas internally, application of specially formulated oils/powders/packs externally, Panchakarma for detoxification & Kaya kalpa therapies for rejuvenation, which not only helps in preventing hair fall but also in re- growing recently lost hairs.

In Ayurveda, it is referred as Shwetakushta or Switra or Kilasa and classified into Kushta rogas (skin diseases). It is caused by the imbalance of all the three doshas (Vata, Pitta & Kapha) vitiating Rakta, Mamsa and MedhasDhatus.

Switra is classified into following types:

  • Daruna – when doshas vitiates the rakta dhatu (blood), the patches will be red in color.
  • Aruna – when doshas vitiates the mamsa dhatu (muscle tissue), the patches will be coppery in color.
  • Kilasa – when doshas vitiates the medho dhatu (fat tissue), the patches will be white in color. This is the most common clinical presentation of svitra hence leucoderma is often called Kilasa.

Ayurveda advocates following line of treatment:

  • Shodana chikitsa – Strong detoxification Panchakarma procedures should be done. Vamana, Virechana, Rakta mokshana using leeches are recommended.
  • Shamana Chikitsa – done through oral medications and external applications.
  • Patya (Diet) – strict diet restrictions, Lifestyle modifications, Yoga and meditation are advocated.
